Warren Kinghorn, MD, ThD
Warren Kinghorn, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Pastoral and Moral Theology at Duke University Medical Center and Duke Divinity School. He is a psychiatrist whose work centers on the role of religious communities in caring for persons with mental health problems and on ways in which Christians engage practices of modern healthcare. Jointly appointed within Duke Divinity School and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences of Duke University Medical Center, he is a staff psychiatrist and clinical teacher at the Durham VA Medical Center. Within the Divinity School, he works closely with students and faculty members interested in exploring the ways in which theology and philosophy might constructively inform Christian engagement with modern medicine and psychiatry. His current scholarly interests include the moral and theological dimensions of combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder, the applicability of virtue theory to the vocational formation of pastors and clinicians, and the contributions of the theology and philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas to contemporary debates about psychiatric diagnosis, psychiatric technology, and human flourishing.
Steve Furr, MD
Steve Furr, MD, is board certified in family medicine. He has practiced in Jackson, Alabama for 30 years. Medical school training was at the University of South Alabama in Mobile Alabama. Dr. Furr completed his family medicine residency at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Currently the chairman of the Board of Trustees at the University of South Alabama, he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2014. In 2012, he was inducted into the Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame. The lay leader for the Alabama-West Florida conference of the United Methodist Church, Dr. Furr also serves as the president of the Association of Annual Conference Lay Leaders. He has also served as president of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama, Alabama Academy of Family Physicians and the Alabama Medical Directors Association. Dr. Furr has also been a board member of the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners and the Alabama State Committee of Public Health. He currently is a delegate to the American Academy of Family Physicians Congress and an alternate delegate to the AMA.
