John F. Kilner, PhD

John F. Kilner, PhD, is Professor of Bioethics and Contemporary Culture and Director of Bioethics Degree Programs at Trinity International University, where he holds the Franklin and Dorothy Forman Chair of Christian Ethics and Theology. He is also a Senior Fellow for The Center for Bioethics & Human Dignity (CBHD) based in Deerfield, Illinois. His degrees are from Yale (BA), Gordon-Conwell (MDiv) and Harvard (AM, PhD). Dr. Kilner is the author of the 2015 book Dignity and Destiny: Humanity in the Image of God. He has also authored or edited 20 books on challenges in bioethics, including the recent Why the Church Needs Bioethics. Dr. Kilner has appeared in numerous interviews and debates in such television venues as NBC (with Tom Brokaw), FOX News (with Bill O’Reilly), CBS and CNN, such radio venues as National Public Radio, and such newspaper venues as the New York Times. His various honors include the 2006 CMDA Educator of the Year Award and the 2015 international Paul Ramsey Award for Exemplary Achievement in the Field of Bioethics from the Center for Bioethics and Culture Network.

Tom West, MD

Tom West, MD, was born in 1938 and raised in South Bend, Indiana. He graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana in 1960. He received his medical degree along with the Borden Research Award from Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio in 1964. He also met Deanna, his wife of 53 years, at Western Reserve. He received training in general surgery at the University of Michigan in an academic preparatory program from 1964 to 1970. In 1970, he was commissioned in the U.S. Navy and served as a Lieutenant Commander (Surgeon) at the Naval Hospital in Quantico, Virginia from 1970 to 1972. From 1973 to 1997, he had a solo general surgical practice in St. Petersburg, Florida. Since retirement, he has pursued various hobbies and interests. In particular, he has been studying psychology, ethics, theology, history and Christianity—giving him a unique position to dialogue with fellow Christian laymen to help them understand how they can influence secular culture.
