Dr. Robert Bowers has been a medical missionary for the last 40+ years working in six different countries on three continents. He graduated from Baylor Medical School and completed an internship in 1966 from Philadelphia General Hospital. After serving as the medical director for three years in Liberia, he completed a residency in general surgery from Geisinger Medical Center. From 1974 to 1977, he was a missionary physician at Soddo Hospital in Ethiopia. Two weeks after arriving in Ethiopia, the Marxist revolution occurred. He was evacuated three years later after multiple house-arrests, harassments, burning of hospital medicines by agitators and more. He practiced for three years in the U.S. before becoming the medical director of Kijabe Medical Center, a large mission hospital in Kenya. From 2004 to 2012, he was the only surgeon for millions of people in Bangladesh.
