Bill Shaw, MD
Individual Interview Location: 26:05
Dr. Bill Shaw received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1988 and his medical degree from Emory University in 1992. He completed his pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati in 1995 and was in private practice for two years before leaving and completing a primary care sports medicine fellowship in 1998. After completing his fellowship, he practiced pediatrics and pediatric sports medicine and taught medical students and residents while working at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. He has worked at VCU Health Systems in Richmond, Virginia since 2005. His particular interest in the LGBT movement, or rather the sexology movement, began in 2002, with a position statement posted by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). That interest would accelerate in 2008 in response to a booklet entitled “Just the Facts,” which was sent out to some 16,000 school superintendents with the help of the AAP. The press release for this was posted on the AAP website at 12:01 a.m. EST, Thursday, February 14, 2008, although he did not learn of the document’s existence, despite being a Fellow of the AAP, until August of that year and only through his concurrent membership in the American College of Pediatricians. He is currently a board member of the ACP, serving a second term.
